Series: Promised Christmas

The Promised Prophet

Doug Fields

There was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, looking forward to Israel’s consolation, and the Holy Spirit was on him. It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he saw the Lord’s Messiah. Guided by the Spirit, he entered the temple. When the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform for him what was customary under the law, Simeon took him up in his arms, praised God, and said, Now, Master, you can dismiss your servant in peace, as you promised. For my eyes have seen your salvation. You have prepared it in the presence of all peoples—a light for revelation to the Gentiles and glory to your people Israel. (Luke 2:25-32)

Long ago God spoke to our ancestors by the prophets at different times and in different ways. In these last days, he has spoken to us by his Son… (Hebrews 1:1-2)

…“I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me will never walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

1. Turn on the Light with Scripture

2. Walk in the Light’s path

“You are the light of the world…let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:14,16)

Reflection Question: What step will you take to walk in the path of the light this week?
